Residence on Mount Barker, a modern house with stone cladding, landscape stairway, and mature trees.

Residence on Mount Barker is a modern home completed in 2023 by Andersson Wise Architects in Austin, Texas. The project was shaped by a dramatic site overlooking Lake Austin and set within the Central Texas hill country, with the client’s brief calling for both framed views and a dedicated space for an art collection. The design organizes living and gallery spaces around controlled sightlines, utilizing screened exterior rooms on the western façade to filter light and mediate panoramic lake vistas. Large windows are precisely placed to frame views into the live oak canopy, while the use of plaster for the interior walls enables shifting patterns of light and shadow throughout the day. These considered openings and material choices support an atmosphere suited for art display while maintaining a strong visual connection to the landscape.
