Greene

Completed in 2016 by Archaeo Architects, Greene is a residential project shaped by the desire to balance shelter and engagement with the landscape. The house sits atop a mesa and was designed in response to both the site’s dramatic setting and the clients’ wish for warmth, comfort, and protection, while maintaining a strong indoor-outdoor connection. The brief called for a residence that preserves the mesa’s character and feels intrinsically tied to its terrain. Archaeo Architects were selected after a competition, with the concept emphasizing sensitivity to location, topography, and the site’s history. The design brings together elements of contemporary and rustic modern architecture, using copper, steel, and glass in contrast to the substantial presence of two L-shaped stone walls that organize the plan and define the central circulation spine. A sequence of patios, roof terraces, and skywalks extends the living space outward, enabling uninterrupted views and interaction with the surrounding landscape. The result is a house conceived as a ‘permanent camp,’ where a sense of expansive shelter coexists with continual openness to the outdoors.
