To these clients, a family-oriented house was important: bright, open, with clean, contemporary lines. Symmetry and balance were also important, with strong horizontal and vertical expression. Access to views was on their list as well, which is accomplished with energy efficient, high quality and beautiful floor-to-ceiling windows and doors, which also provide lots of natural light and an easy flow between indoor and outdoor living spaces. This contemporary design centers on a continued pursuit to create site-specific architecture that is sensitive to the land’s inherent character. We continue to pursue using natural light as a form-defining element, resulting in sunlight and moonlight entering the home in unique and unexpected ways. A theme developed around the interplay of vertical and horizontal lines, solid and transparent planes all emphasizing an open connection to the exterior. Surfaces were pushed and pulled to uniquely reveal the exterior view and allow light in.
