Cummings

Cummings is a residential project designed by Archaeo Architects, completed in 2022 on a steep, rocky site in Santa Fe. The land had been significantly altered by a previous owner for a different design, presenting a challenge in integrating the new home into the scarified landscape while capitalizing on its panoramic western views over the city. The house is elevated above the modified terrain, positioning the main living spaces to face outward toward the landscape. A linear water feature, referencing The Alhambra, bisects the house and channels sightlines to the view beyond. Concentric arced retaining walls transition the disturbed site into terraces, mediating between the rugged topography and the orthogonal structure of the three-level main house. A cylindrical guesthouse sits upslope, complementing the primary residence’s massing and arrangement.
