Atelier Drome — Seattle, WA, 2024

The Moonwave DADU features natural wood paneling and a compact kitchen with green cabinetry.

Moonwave DADU is a detached accessory dwelling unit located in Seattle’s Seward Park neighborhood, designed by Atelier Drome and completed in 2024. The project emerged from a renewed collaboration between the architect and Autumn Martin, who brought an emphasis on wellness and sustainable living to the brief. The site called for a retreat space that would integrate into its residential context and support both quiet reflection and community connections. The compact structure is characterized by its sculptural volume, finished entirely in untreated cedar intended to age naturally, referencing southern California coastal precedents. Key design decisions—including the inclusion of an oversized round window and the reuse of cabinetry—reflect priorities of simplicity, sustainability, and non-toxic materials. The interior, developed in close coordination with the client, adopts a minimalist palette and layout that supports flexible use as a guest suite, workspace, or personal sanctuary.
