BA Collective — Los Angeles, 2021

Multi-level modern house with extensive floor-to-ceiling glazing and an illuminated pool in the foreground at dusk.

Turning Point Residence by BA Collective is a 4,311-square-foot home in Los Angeles, completed in 2021 and shaped by the desire to maximize living space on a hillside site. The design strategy organizes the house into four levels that pivot around a central axis, moving away from the conventional box form and resulting in overlapping geometries and intersecting planes. Each level opens to a distinct terrace, offering a sequence of outdoor spaces oriented toward varied natural vistas; the upper floors connect to hillside views while the lower bedrooms are framed by dense greenery. The main living areas on the ground level connect directly with generous lounge and pool spaces. The façade features faceted aluminum panels with a vintage nickel patina, introducing dimensionality and reflective qualities to the exterior. Inside, a spiraling stair combines pigmented plaster and a steel guardrail, establishing a continuous vertical movement from the ground floor upwards. The interior palette emphasizes oak and poplar woods, porcelain, and limestone, set against plentiful glazing that allows shifting natural light to animate the spaces. The client, acting as interior designer, curated art to contrast and complement the modern architectural language.
