The Jade House

The Jade House, designed by Cadence Studio and completed in 2023, is a new residence in Golden, Colorado, situated on a sloped, triangular site within a neighborhood of single-story homes. The brief called for a modern dwelling that would harmonize with its context while providing ample space for a multi-generational family. The design accommodates work-from-home needs with two dedicated offices and offers flexible areas for entertaining and guests. Site challenges included a new city-imposed square footage cap and the unique geometry and slope of the lot. The house employs a minimal aesthetic and integrates all-electric, energy-efficient systems, including EV charging capability, solar panel readiness, and a heat pump-based HVAC. Expansive glazing frames foothill views at the rear of the property, and the design incorporates salvaged brick from the original house alongside wood flooring and ceilings in the main living zone. Outdoor plans include lounge areas, a pool, and play spaces, allowing both family activities and connections to the surrounding landscape. Water-saving plumbing fixtures, LED lighting, and a highly insulated building envelope contribute to the project’s sustainable approach.
