CCS Architecture — Stinson Beach, CA, 2020

Dune House features floor-to-ceiling glazing and a waterfront dock with a built-in wooden fire pit seating area.

Dune House is a 2,100 square foot contemporary residence designed by CCS Architecture in Stinson Beach, California, completed in 2020. Positioned on the lagoon within the Seadrift community, the house was created as a weekend retreat for a family with two teenagers, with the intent of supporting casual gathering, recreation, and a strong connection to the natural surroundings. Site planning and spatial organization prioritize indoor-outdoor relationships and views toward both the lagoon and the mountain beyond, as well as the openness of the southern courtyard. The house features a breezeway entry and a configuration that allows views and light to permeate the spaces, resulting in transparency from north to south. Expanses of sliding glass doors open the main living areas to decks and a three-sided courtyard, reinforcing seamless transitions between inside and out. The interior offers an open kitchen, dining, and living space, while the bedrooms and a family room are set apart in a separate zone. White-painted horizontal wood siding and dark-framed windows create a modern exterior, complemented by a flat, multi-level roof. Materials include concrete floors with radiant heat, painted sheetrock, and wood ceilings, with interiors by StudioM and Bridget McIver.
