Creek House

Creek House, designed by DeForest Architects, sits along Northwest Leary Way in Seattle, Washington. The project occupies a site below an existing main house, adjacent to a stream and within several environmentally sensitive areas. The brief called for a three-bedroom family residence that encourages art-making, fosters connections with nature, and facilitates gathering with friends and family. Site constraints required a careful approach to minimize impact on the landscape and waterway. To address the sensitive context, the architects devised a structural cantilever extending 32 feet over the creek and its bank, allowing the primary living spaces to float above the ground without disturbing the delicate site below. Interior spaces are organized to promote views outward toward the water and surrounding vegetation, supporting the clients' interest in art and nature. The house employs contemporary and modern detailing, integrating the residence with its environment both visually and physically while adhering to strict environmental guidelines.
