Draw Architecture — Missouri The Quackenbush, MO, 2024

The Quackenbush Residence + Artist Studio, designed by Draw Architecture and completed in 2024, stands on Beacon Hill in Missouri The Quackenbush with a view of downtown. The project brief called for a private home paired with an artist studio, while the prominent hilltop siting offered wide vistas to the north and west. Due to the local street grid and adjacent buildings not matching these sightlines, the plan was intentionally rotated away from the street alignment to enhance the outlook from both buildings, prioritizing connections to the cityscape. This adjustment also delineates a purposeful outdoor living space between the two structures. The residence and studio each reference aspects of the owners’ past homes—a log cabin and a New York loft—translated here through a combination of contemporary, modern, and traditional elements. Vaulted interiors create a sense of openness while maintaining warmth and vibrancy, marrying the clients’ preferences with contextual responses to the site and local environment.
