Padaro Beach Home

Padaro Beach Home is a residential project by Neumann Mendro Andrulaitis Architects, located on the California coast. The brief called for a family-oriented beach house suitable for both gatherings and entertaining, prompting the architects to draw references from the classic board-and-batten beach bungalows of the region. The design balances these traditional forms with a contemporary sensibility, suited to current patterns of living and leisure. The plan features a prominent entry sequence where a full wet bar is positioned at the heart of the home, adjacent to a stair that leads to the second-floor bedroom suites. This spatial arrangement is intended to facilitate hospitality, supporting the client’s tradition of welcoming guests with refreshments upon arrival. Materials and forms reference midcentury and modern traditions, while the scale and arrangement remain in dialogue with California’s longstanding beach architecture typologies.
