Conceived as a place of respite from the daily demands of its owners, the cabin draws conceptual inspiration from Herron Island's separation from the mainland across Case Inlet. The site's natural slope informs the approach, further reinforcing the sense of detachment between work life and retreat. A floating stair descends from the driveway, guiding visitors down the slope toward the entry bridge. This bridge, which produces a distinct sound and movement when crossed, emphasizes a marked transition from the surrounding environment to the interior of the cabin. The spaces and materials integrate elements of contemporary, modern, and rustic modern sensibilities, with the architectural sequence designed to highlight the experience of arrival and retreat.
