HQ Architects — Denver’s Wash Park

Two-story brick French Country style house with blue window shutters and iron balcony railings in Denver's Wash Park.

Located on a corner lot in Denver’s Washington Park neighborhood, this French Country-inspired residence by HQ Architects was shaped by its active urban setting and the needs of a family of six. The design responds to the historic context of the neighborhood, characterized by mature trees, brick bungalows, and Victorian homes. Public-facing rooms, such as the Dining and Music Rooms at the front, are oriented for views of the street and park, featuring mirrored fireplaces, grand chandeliers, and shuttered French doors that connect visually to the lively surroundings, while affording privacy where needed. Private areas are situated toward the rear; the Kitchen and Great Room are positioned to capture southern sunlight and overlook a secluded backyard. A heated rear patio extends living outside for much of the year. Each bedroom is designed for the family’s individual needs, with children’s rooms offering a mix of intimacy and independence through details such as angled ceilings, Juliet balconies, and a shared laundry facility. The parents’ suite is arranged for privacy, incorporating a large bathroom and office as a buffer. A light-filled stairwell leads to a basement with tall ceilings and social spaces, allowing ample room for both togetherness and solitude.
