The home was shaped by the clients’ request for universal accessibility and a desire for connection with the Sonoran Desert landscape. Site challenges and a commitment to minimizing disturbance to the environment were central to the project brief. The design consists of three rectilinear volumes positioned to hover just above the desert surface. These volumes are oriented to optimize passive solar gain, maximize prevailing breezes, and curate specific outdoor views. Landscapes are organized as a series of distinct visual vignettes, each intended to foster an experience of immersion in the surrounding environment. The building utilizes a restrained material palette in keeping with its modern character and strives to maintain a quiet presence within its sensitive desert context.
