Desert Wing Residence by Kendle Design Collaborative is a contemporary home located in Scottsdale, Arizona, shaped by a minimalist approach and sensitivity to the Sonoran Desert context. The residence is oriented along a precise axis to frame views of an adjacent lake, while robust earth and concrete walls provide privacy from neighboring properties and protect interiors from intense sunlight. This arrangement focuses attention toward the landscape and ensures a strong visual and spatial connection to the desert environment. A narrow band of glass set beneath pronounced overhangs dissolves the threshold between interior and exterior, allowing expansive vistas of native flora and distant city lights to become part of the daily experience. Planar roof forms are carefully crafted to harvest rainwater for on-site vegetation. Material choices are closely tied to their origins: copper from regional sources clads the roof elements, and rammed earth walls rise from on-site soil, mirroring the lines of the surrounding mountains. This integration of form, material, and site produces a residence attuned to its setting and climate.
