Special NO 9 House

Special NO 9 House, completed in 2008 by KieranTimberlake, is a 1,520-square-foot single-family residence designed as part of the Make It Right Foundation's initiative to provide sustainable housing in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans. Developed in response to Hurricane Katrina, the project addresses challenges specific to the area, including the site's position below sea level, flood risk, and the need for affordability for returning residents. The house is raised above ground to comply with federal flood standards and incorporates a roof area designated as refuge space. The design and construction process involved consultation with community members, focusing on creating a resilient, cost-effective home within strict budget parameters.
