Hermosa Residence

Hermosa Residence is a 6,922-square-foot new-build home designed by LTBa in Menlo Park, California, completed in 2017 for a family of four. The house is positioned on a spacious site with mature trees and a park-like atmosphere, guiding a design approach that emphasizes visual and physical connections to the landscape. Interior spaces are organized around a central garden courtyard, with expansive glazing and sliding panels creating sightlines through the home and facilitating access to outdoor areas. Main living areas, including kitchen, dining, and living spaces, open onto terraces, a large rear yard, and a swimming pool, further integrating the house with its surroundings. Daylight reaches deep into the interior via generous windows and skylights, minimizing the need for supplementary lighting. The design incorporates passive sustainable strategies such as rooftop solar panels, hydronic radiant floors, and a whole-house fan for ventilation, making air conditioning unnecessary. These elements together support both comfort and energy performance while maintaining a focus on the site's natural features.
