In Mar Vista, near Venice Beach, Maienza + Wilson completed a renovation and addition to a 1930s Spanish-style bungalow in 2021. The project included a 500-square-foot expansion aimed at adapting the original home to better suit contemporary living needs while acknowledging the structure's historical character. The updated interior features an open plan, enabled by new Western Windows, which enhances connections between interior and exterior spaces and brings additional daylight into the home. The design retains elements of the original Spanish style but introduces contemporary finishes and spatial clarity, responding to the scale and context of the Los Angeles neighborhood. The new addition, though compact, improves the home's functionality and supports the shift to modern living requirements.
