Roscoe Village

Nicholas Design Collaborative — N Wolcott Ave Chicago, IL, 2001

The Roscoe Village project features a two-story home with white siding and a metal gable roof by Nicholas Design Collaborative in Chicago.

Roscoe Village is a residential project completed in 2001 by Nicholas Design Collaborative, situated on North Wolcott Avenue in Chicago’s Roscoe Village neighborhood. The commission responded to a residential brief shaped by the area’s established streetscape and the client’s desire for a modern home that remained compatible with traditional neighborhood forms. Adjacent structures, lot proportions, and local character all informed the planning and organization of the house. The design incorporates contemporary and modern elements while referencing aspects of the traditional urban residence. Volumes are articulated to balance privacy and openness, using carefully sited windows and shifts in massing to bring natural light into the primary living spaces. Materials and finishes are selected to bridge the modern and traditional, with exterior treatments that complement the street’s visual continuity. The collaboration with the general contractor contributed to precise execution of details and integration of the architecture with its urban context. The result is a home that respects its residential setting while introducing current approaches to form and space.
