Oak Avenue House features light wood siding with black window frames and a flat roof with greenery.

Oak Avenue House by ras-a, inc. is situated in Redondo Beach, California, on a compact lot shared with an existing recording studio at the rear. Designed for a family of three, the house was shaped by the need to maximize outdoor areas while minimizing its footprint. Parking regulations typically influence residential form in the area; here, a tandem parking arrangement reduces the size of the garage at the street frontage and allows for a more open interior connection to the front yard. The ground floor is configured to create a covered patio at the rear, linking the main living spaces with the outdoors and establishing a buffer—from a heated plunge pool—between the house and the recording studio. Upon entry, a double-height music room rises to a mezzanine reading area on the second floor. All bedrooms are located upstairs. The primary suite has a bathroom opening onto a private, planted terrace formed by the second floor’s setback. The twin gabled roof steps back to respond to neighborhood scale, while western red cedar clads the lower level, supporting an upper volume finished in smooth trowel stucco.
