Shelter — urban waterside location, 2018

Lakefront Modern is a 2018 residence by Shelter, constructed on an existing foundation in an urban waterside setting. The new structure replaces a deteriorated home, with the design shaped by the dual aims of capturing lake views and maximizing natural light. Two artist studios situated within the home benefit from expansive north-facing windows, which admit daylight while minimizing glare. Exterior patios and decks have been arranged for a direct connection between indoor and outdoor activities. The building’s entry maintains privacy from the street, while stepped landscaping channels daylight to the lower level. Accessibility features include a generous ramp and elevator, as well as an accessible guest suite located on the lower floor. The main floor accommodates family life with a dedicated children’s suite engineered for both play and study over time. Bathrooms on both the main and lower levels are designed to support accessible use.
