Borth House

Borth House, designed by SHKS Architects, is situated on the north shore of Lake Wenatchee in Washington. The house responds directly to its site by conforming to the existing topography and orienting itself to optimize both sunlight and views across the lake. The design was shaped in part by the client's interest in art, resulting in a layout that incorporates spaces for display and contemplation alongside everyday functions. Central to the spatial arrangement is a promenade that showcases the owner's collection of paintings and sculpture. This interior path connects areas dedicated to processional movement and contemplation with living spaces arranged for daily activities such as cooking and dining. A stone terrace extends the living area outdoors, bringing the landscape and lakefront into direct relationship with the interior. On the upper floor, a library and study acts as an intermediary between public and private zones, emphasizing transitions within the dwelling's organization.
