Overlook Cabin by studio ma features a modern design with large floor-to-ceiling windows and dark wood siding.

Overlook Cabin is a 5,100-square-foot residence completed by Studio Ma in 2025 on the western edge of Powder Mountain in Eden, Utah. Conceived as a multigenerational gathering place, the project was shaped by the ambition to support communal rituals and everyday routines in a setting closely attuned to its mountain site. Rather than prioritizing private spaces, the plan emphasizes shared living, with the interior environment oriented to the expansive horizon and changing weather that define the landscape. The design centers on a continuous envelope of white oak that lines the interior, creating both visual warmth and acoustic softness. Limestone flooring extends from the garage through a transitional ski and mud room, marking an intentional threshold for arrivals and departures. Built-in millwork provides storage and organization without visual distraction, while the structural system is concealed within window mullions to allow uninterrupted views. Sliding pocket doors connect the main living spaces to a terrace, facilitating an easy flow between indoors and outdoors. Environmental performance was a core consideration, with a high-efficiency envelope, triple glazing, radiant floors, and operable openings supporting net-zero energy and carbon goals. The overall approach allows the house to engage with seasonal changes and the immediate context.
