Yellowstone River Cabin in Park County, Montana, is a compact retreat designed by Studio Ryker, positioned directly along the riverbank. The site’s location required elevating the structure above the FEMA flood line, a challenge addressed by setting the cabin on steel piers that follow the footprint of two earlier cabin foundations, allowing new construction in an area with strict site limitations. The project organizes two primary volumes linked by a covered breezeway in the manner of a dog-trot house, creating both continuity and separation within the cabin’s compact layout. The surrounding landscape includes planned perennial gardens, a broad patio oriented toward the river, and a meadow of native grassland, emphasizing connections with both the immediate and broader natural context.
