StudioMET Architects — Houston, Texas
Laurel Residence by StudioMET Architects is located in Houston, Texas. The house was planned for comfortable daily use, with an emphasis on sustainable design. The site called for a residence that would both support everyday routines and provide opportunities for social gatherings. The project's form remains straightforward, allowing the attention to fall on practical material choices and spatial flow. The house arranges its main interior spaces—a kitchen, dining room, and living room—around an open-plan core intended for entertaining. A loft located above the living area functions as a transitional zone between the more public and private areas of the house. The living room opens onto a covered patio, enabling an extension of interior activities into the outdoors and reinforcing the connection with the landscape. The exterior uses a selection of low-maintenance materials, while carefully placed windows admit natural light and maintain visual ties to the surrounding site.
