American Classic
American Classic is a newly built residence designed by Austin Patterson Disston Architects on a four-acre waterfront site that was once part of the late William C. Atwater estate. The brief called for a durable and spacious home to accommodate the routines of an active family while honoring traditional American residential architecture. The existing boathouse on the property, dating to around 1902, was also restored for continued use alongside the new construction. In plan and section, the house organizes an open layout with classic architectural elements, integrating both communal and private areas. Material selections were guided by priorities of longevity and understated elegance. Screened porches promote seasonal outdoor use, framing views across the bay. The revitalized historic boathouse stands adjacent to a new waterside pool and functions as a pool house, providing an additional gathering space on the grounds.
