Jesse Street House

Jesse Street House is a 2,500-square-foot residence completed in 2017 by Derrington Building Studio in Austin, Texas. The project began as a response to the client's need to address health issues linked to mold in their previous house, driving a brief that centered on resilience, superior indoor air quality, and moisture control. Replacing the original structure on the site, the new build uses an insulated concrete form (ICF) envelope, improving thermal performance and durability while minimizing health risks associated with typical construction methods. The design employs a compact and straightforward massing, characterized by uncluttered detailing and visible construction elements such as exposed steel and sections of the ICF wall. Wood siding wraps the upper level, distinguishing the private bedrooms, while a series of precisely placed window openings frame tree views and introduce sunlight into the interiors. Inside, an open double-height living area transitions into a lofted mezzanine, expanding interior volume within a modest footprint and encouraging visual connections across levels. The architectural language emphasizes material honesty and light, aligning with the project's overall vision of a healthy and restrained home.
