Lake Michigan Residence

Lake Michigan Residence is a minimal, modern dwelling completed in 2024 by Dirk Denison Architects in Lake, Michigan. Situated on a bluff overlooking the lake, the house is organized to accommodate both a couple and their extended family, with a clear delineation between private and shared areas. The upper level contains private quarters for the couple, while a more compact living space for guests and family members is positioned below the main residence, maximizing use of the sloped site. The architecture is embedded into the landscape, working closely with landscape designer Maria Smithberg to integrate the home's forms with the land. Generous glazing frames expansive views of Lake Michigan and brings natural light deep into interior spaces. The minimalist aesthetic is maintained through restrained detailing and a careful selection of materials, supporting a quiet visual dialogue between the built environment and the natural context.
