Gray Organschi Architecture — Kent, CT

Spectacle Ridge House in Kent, Connecticut, is a residential addition designed by Gray Organschi Architecture nearly two decades after the original house was completed. The project was initiated in response to the owners’ evolving needs, including dedicated workspace for remote work and additional areas to accommodate visits from their extended family. The design integrates new spaces into the house’s established circulation, making use of the existing flat-roofed garage footprint to support both a guest suite and home office above. The addition is set apart by its orientation: while the original house faces north, overlooking the lake through woodland, the new volume extends out toward an adjacent rocky ledge. This presents new views and a spatial connection to a different aspect of the wooded site, diversifying the experience of the house without disturbing its existing structure. The design approach maintains continuity with the existing building while introducing fresh outlooks and functions for contemporary living.
