Harding Home

Harding Home, designed by HARRISON architects and completed in 2005, is a newly built residence located in Woodinville, Washington. The brief emphasized creating a home that evoked the comfort and familiarity of a traditional farmhouse, reflecting the clients’ aspiration for a place that felt enduring and rooted. A pivotal moment during construction—changing the main floor’s second bedroom from a study to a nursery—demonstrates the house’s adaptability to its owners’ evolving needs. The construction timeline closely paralleled the family's milestones, with completion arriving shortly after the birth of the clients’ child. While passersby have frequently mistaken Harding Home for a remodel of an older farmhouse, its design departs from conventional farmhouse precedents in both plan and section. The architectural form channels the region’s traditional vernacular on the exterior, encouraging familiarity in the neighborhood. Internally, the spatial organization provides a contemporary interpretation not only in layout but also in response to the family’s practical needs. The result is a house that references the character of local farmhouses while maintaining modern sensibilities and functional adaptability.
