Modern house with wood siding, concrete foundation, flat roof, and large windows with balcony above garage.

View Ridge is a modern residence designed by Heliotrope Architects in Seattle, Washington. Set in a neighborhood recognized for its mid-century modern homes, the project addresses a 15-foot grade change between sidewalk and entrance through a sequence of garden spaces and gateways, culminating with a pronounced cantilevered entry overhang. The design incorporates existing vegetation, including a heritage Douglas fir viewed from the kitchen and owner’s bathroom, and a specimen fig tree at the entrance. Organized across three stacked floors, the house shifts each level to break down its overall scale. A reverse floor plan places living spaces, a deck, and broad sliding glass doors on the upper level, securing views of the lake and Cascade range and preserving them from potential future obstructions. A three-story staircase, which wraps around a central elevator, occupies the core and allows for aging in place.
