Stone Canyon in Bel Air, California is a remodel and expansion by Hayne Architects completed in 2025, set on an eight-acre hillside site. The project reimagines an existing single-family residence as a private retreat with a focus on integrating the home with its immediate natural context. The design brief sought to foster a strong connection between interior spaces and the extensive landscape, enriching daily life with access to outdoor amenities such as an infinity-edge pool, an art studio, and a vineyard.
The architecture introduces a palette of natural stone, reclaimed wood, and steel throughout both new and remodeled areas. The design employs Mediterranean, contemporary, rustic modern, and traditional influences to balance sophistication with a sense of warmth. Outdoor living areas are arranged to take advantage of views and topography, reinforcing an indoor-outdoor lifestyle. The interiors, completed in collaboration with Anne Carter Inc, emphasize layered textures and natural materials to maintain continuity with the exterior's materials and intent.
