JHL Design — Hood River Valley

Sanford Spring features modern wood siding and a gable roof designed by JHL Design in Portland.

Sanford Spring is a residence by JHL Design located on a former orchard site in the Hood River Valley. The project was shaped by its setting, with the orientation and form of the house designed to engage with the surrounding landscape and the valley views. Simple gabled rooflines and extensive use of natural cedar help the building integrate with its environment. Large areas of glazing bring in natural light and frame outward views. The interiors, developed in collaboration with RESIDENTIAL Custom Homes Interiors, feature warm wood finishes and a restrained palette, emphasizing a contemporary Pacific Northwest aesthetic.
