Hill House

Hill House, completed by Leroy Street Studio in 2023, sits at the top of a steeply sloped site with views toward a distant bay. The siting and configuration of the residence resulted from an extended collaboration with a client who prioritizes outdoor living and had clear expectations for both open communal areas and secluded private rooms. The design employs a base of stone retaining walls to create a series of stepped terraces, integrating the structure into the landscape. Above this, two cedar-clad volumes are connected by a roof deck with multiple functions. These upper elements shelter both indoor and outdoor public areas beneath, while containing the more private aspects of the home. The arrangement emphasizes the contrast between gathering spaces and secluded quarters, reflecting the client's brief while responding to the site's topography.
