Leroy Street Studio Cube House
Description
The simple form of this house responds to the harsh marine climate and the raw beauty of the site. Elevated on timber piles, the house hovers over the delicate wetlands and allows floodwaters to pass beneath. Within the taut cedar-clad volume LSS worked with the client to create both intimate spaces for retreat and privacy, as well as dynamic spaces for group activity. The resulting split section allows natural light into the center of the house while creating many levels, each with framed views of the wetlands and bay beyond. The house required an extensive wetland permitting process. LSS was both architect and construction manager for the project.
