Cube House

Cube House, completed by Leroy Street Studio in 2023, is a contemporary residence designed for a sensitive coastal site. The house sits above delicate wetlands, requiring an elevated structure on timber piles to accommodate both the flood-prone environment and the ecological complexity of the landscape. Navigating an extensive wetland permitting process was a central consideration shaping the project’s form and siting. The building presents as a restrained cedar-clad volume, shaped by the competing needs for shelter from a harsh marine climate and the preservation of open views toward the wetlands and bay. Inside, the architects introduced a split-section concept that distributes rooms across multiple levels, resulting in a sequence of both private corners and areas for gathering. Carefully placed windows and internal light wells draw daylight deep into the plan and provide framed outlooks across the landscape. The materials and organization reflect a modern approach that prioritizes environmental response and spatial clarity.
