Fisher Residence
Macy Architecture — San Francisco, CA, 2007
The Fisher Residence is a comprehensive remodel of a 1970s duplex located in San Francisco's Russian Hill neighborhood, completed by Macy Architecture in 2007. Working within the constraints of a compact 23 by 30-foot footprint, the project focused on increasing interior spaciousness and enhancing the connection to the outdoors, while responding to the modest scale of the existing structure. Key interventions included the strategic removal and repositioning of interior walls to open up spatial relationships throughout the home. On the north, street-facing elevation, a new projecting bay with corner windows was introduced to capture views of nearby landmarks Coit Tower and Alcatraz Island—vistas previously overlooked by the original layout. The updated façade employs a slat siding system made from recycled-content composite wood finished in a warm teak tone, chosen for both its durability and low-maintenance qualities.
