Crimson Lane Vineyard in Falls Church, VA, comprises a 9,000-square-foot tasting room designed by Moore Architects as part of a long-term redevelopment of a 200-acre estate. The hillside site was selected for its advantageous southern orientation, supporting grape cultivation through maximum sunlight and cooler nighttime temperatures, and providing expansive views toward the Blue Ridge Mountains. The building interprets the region’s agricultural roots through a barn-inspired form clad in board and batten cedar, intended to weather to a rustic silver. A central axis organizes the primary spaces: a reception area leads to two large gathering rooms—the Tasting Bar and the Case Club—while a continuous skylight illuminates the Tasting Bar below. Contemporary and rustic modern elements coexist, with environmental considerations reflected in both orientation and materials, connecting the structure to its vineyard context.
