Crimson Lane Residence by Moore Architects is located in Falls Church, Virginia, designed for clients beginning a vineyard and winery. The chosen site, halfway up a sloped property, was selected for its favorable topography, rich soils, and panoramic mountain views. The residence needed to provide an elevated vantage point above a nearby highway, reducing traffic noise and framing south-facing vistas of the Blue Ridge foothills.
The design comprises a two-story central volume intersected by three shorter appendages oriented toward the south, each joined by a glass-filled connector that runs east–west. These connectors, or gasket elements, extend toward the outer edges of the house and maximize daylight, while a smaller secondary connector on the north side links to a home office at the west end. This office offers clear sightlines over the vineyard, integrating the home’s domestic spaces with its agrarian context. The design language blends farmhouse modern with traditional and rustic modern cues, responding directly to the site and the clients’ agricultural ambitions.
