Lost river meadow, completed in 2026 by Prentiss Balance Wickline, is a modern residence located at the base of Goat Peak within the Methow River watershed. The project began as a planned renovation but was reconceived as new construction to better engage the site's combination of meadow and woodland. The design responds to its setting by prioritizing broad outward views rather than the visibility of the house itself in the landscape.
The home's south elevation presents a restrained facade with horizontal awning windows set at ground level and a continuous clerestory band tucked under a gently sloping shed roof. These elements shelter and illuminate open living, dining, and kitchen areas, all oriented to frame the surrounding scenery. Circulation is handled by a corridor linking guest accommodation to the primary bedroom suite. Large floor-to-ceiling windows in the vaulted main living space are positioned so Goat Peak remains visible from all vantage points. Interior finishes feature a palette of stone, wood, and concrete, with integrated cabinetry and subtle steel details throughout.
