Semple Brown Design — Denver

The Duncan Residence features modern brick construction with a flat roof and cantilevered entry awning, complemented by a water feature and metal sculptures.

The Duncan Residence by Semple Brown Design is a new single-family house located in Denver’s Bonnie Brae neighborhood. The project was shaped by its context, responding to both the street scale and the influence of International Style houses in the area. Collaboration with the owners—a landscape architect and a wine collector—informed the home’s concept, emphasizing integration of architecture and landscape to suit urban living. Design moves include a sequence that begins at the sidewalk and continuously links a series of indoor and outdoor rooms. The plan and circulation emphasize visual connections and crafted transitions, producing framed views at key points throughout the house. The project favors abundant natural light and a modernist sculptural approach to form, aiming for subtlety in its urban setting.
