Stephen Dynia Architects — Boulder, Colorado, 2010

Boulder Cabin features a flat roof and rust-colored metal siding, situated among pine trees.

Boulder Cabin is a 2,500-square-foot residence completed in 2010 by Stephen Dynia Architects in Boulder, Colorado. The house occupies a site characterized by its proximity to nature, with the design intent focused on establishing a sense of retreat while maintaining a modest footprint. Landscape and material choices were kept minimal to ensure the building integrates quietly with its surroundings. The cabin uses an uncomplicated plan, with the eastern elevation featuring a series of windows that provide views toward an entry garden and the distant plains, while also bringing daylight inside through a high glass band. The western side is defined by a continuous expanse of full-height operable glazing, framing sights of the Flatirons and visually extending the interior space into the landscape. Together, these moves reinforce a strong connection between the house and its natural setting.
