Stephen Dynia Architects — Jackson, Wyoming, 2003

Ely Springs Residence, completed in 2003 by Stephen Dynia Architects, is a 7,500-square-foot compound located in Jackson, Wyoming. The project includes a main house, guesthouse, barn, dining pavilion, and entry gate, with each structure shaped in response to its surrounding landscape. The Teton Range, visible from the site’s southern to far western edge, informs the orientation and form of the compound’s buildings. The roofs of the main residence feature gabled ridges angled to mirror the gradual rise of the Tetons, with the northern wall elevating toward the mountain views and the southern wall rising to the east to collect morning light. Material selections include wood, rusted steel, copper panels, and stone, brought together in a restrained palette. The compound references the local vernacular through its sculptural forms, echoing the weathered beams of traditional ranch structures. The result anchors the project to its environment while proposing a contemporary reading of architecture in the American West.
