La Escondida Residence

La Escondida Residence, designed by Touzet Studio and completed in 2020, is situated within a mature oak hammock. The design responds to the clients’ desire for a home that engages the surrounding vegetation and provides a private setting. To address these goals, the structure is oriented so that each room frames specific views of prominent trees across the property. Living spaces are organized around outdoor areas, establishing connections between the family’s daily life and the landscape. Daylight is filtered into rooms, enhancing interior ambience while preserving privacy. A cantilevered master bedroom is positioned among the tree canopy, allowing diffused sunlight through the leaves in the morning. Operable glass walls punctuate the facade, bringing in natural light and offering long views of the greenery. The kitchen and dining spaces are emphasized by their outlook to trees with notable branching, which cast intricate shadows within. These design strategies minimize the reliance on artificial lighting during the day and reinforce visual ties to the outdoors.
