Cat Cay Residence, designed by Touzet Studio, is a private beachfront house on Cat Cay, inspired by the island’s shifting blue seascape and natural surroundings. The project brief called for a home that would connect with the vibrant local environment while incorporating features rooted in Bahamian tradition and built for resilience in a marine climate. Site conditions included proximity to dramatic rock outcrops and direct exposure to ocean breezes, influencing the orientation and outdoor living spaces of the house. The plan incorporates Bahamian shutters, wide porches, breezeways, and native keystone walls, all paired with volume ceilings clad in wood to evoke regional typologies. The living spaces open to the outdoors via retracting sliding doors, extending the Great Room to a reflecting pool, while concrete decks project views over the rocks and beach below. Materials were selected for durability and ease of maintenance in the harsh salt-air context. Cross-ventilation, elevated decks, and shaded porches allow for natural cooling and minimize dependence on air conditioning most of the year, creating comfortable gathering spaces that engage the site’s landscape and seascape.
