House 306 by Arch 11 is sited on a mountainside, where a residential typology typically used on flat land is adapted to steep terrain. The design responds to the site by arranging the program across distinct levels, linked and anchored by two primary stone walls that lead from the driveway to the entrance and orient the house toward a key mountain view. These walls create a strong organizational axis and reappear throughout the house as both functional and orienting elements, providing a consistent reference to the landscape. The house massing steps with the hillside, inverting the typical horizontal progression of farmhouse additions to instead reveal and negotiate the site’s topography. At each level, interior spaces open directly to the outdoors, emphasizing a connection to the landscape. The living room and bridge feature a custom structural curtain wall designed to maximize transparency, reducing the visual barrier between interior and exterior and reinforcing the house’s engagement with its setting. Local stone is used for the primary organizing walls, grounding the architecture in its context.
