Civitas

Civitas is a single-family residence completed by Archimania in 2019 on a compact greenfield site along the Mississippi River in Memphis, Tennessee. The project brief focused on fostering connections within the family and the broader neighborhood, prompting a spatial strategy that emphasizes openness and engagement. The design features a transparent and tunable ground floor, establishing visual links between interior and exterior while blurring boundaries between private and public realms. The collaborative design process involved dialogue with neighbors, reflecting both traditional and modern design context, and drawing on the vernacular forms of surrounding residences to inform its character.
