Rad Trad

Rad Trad is a residence in the Madison Park neighborhood of Seattle, completed by Best Practice in 2025 for clients wishing to remain near family while spending part of their time at a working farm in the San Juan Islands. The brief called for a compact home that would allow the owners to downsize within the city yet still accommodate a range of programmatic needs. The design merges modern spatial planning with finishes and cabinetry influenced by traditional styles, resulting in a hybrid approach that balances contemporary living with classic references. Despite its modest footprint of 1,315 square feet, the house is organized around a double-height living space defined by exposed wood collar ties and a central fireplace. Large glass sliding doors bring in natural light and connect the main living areas to the outdoors. The distinction between the living, dining, and kitchen areas is intentionally blurred to create an informal, flexible environment suited to family gatherings, responding directly to the owners’ wish for adaptable and sociable spaces.
