Little House is a compact residence designed by mw | works architecture + design and located on a north-facing bluff above Hood Canal in Seabeck, Washington. The project is shaped by its second-growth forest setting and the reuse of an existing building footprint, informing its efficient layout and restrained form. The clients pursued a contemporary, minimal structure that makes a modest intervention in the landscape while maximizing engagement with views and natural light. The north and west facades incorporate large areas of glazing to draw the wooded surroundings and distant water views into the interior, contrasted by more enclosed elevations elsewhere. Exterior cladding consists of oxidized black cedar and blackened cement infill panels, creating a subdued palette that recedes into the site. Inside, lighter materials—painted wall panels and soft pine plywood—introduce brightness and warmth. A covered entry canopy signals arrival from the south, and a generous patio at the west extends living outdoors and connects to trails leading down to the shoreline.
