Leon County Ranch is a family retreat located on a 2,000-acre property in Texas. Natalye Appel + Associates Architects led the comprehensive remodeling and expansion project, more than doubling the home's original size to better serve two brothers and their extended families. The design brief called for a stronger connection between the interiors and the surrounding landscape, a focus on daylight and views, and a tangible sense of family continuity. The approach reinterprets the traditional ranch house in a more modern language, balancing contemporary openness with durable, rustic materials. Large windows and open interior layouts frame vistas of the land, while robust finishes and locally influenced art and furnishings ground the residence in its setting. The collaborative team integrated these elements to reinforce the home’s relationship to the place and to enhance its role as a multi-generational gathering point.
