Hudson River House, designed by Resolution 4 Architecture and completed in 2017, is a 2,374-square-foot residence located on one of the Hudson Valley’s elevated sites. The brief called for a compact, contemporary home for two, with a focus on panoramic views of the Hudson River after years of city living. The approach winds through meadow grasses before arriving at a structure positioned to maximize river and town vistas, using its site to offer privacy and daylight via clerestory windows along the front.
The house is characterized by a reflective metal-paneled façade and is lifted above the ground on slender steel columns, giving it a light presence against the landscape. Floor-to-ceiling windows line the primary façade, while a slatted ipe volume accommodates the stair and elevator. The main living area is open, featuring white oak and light grey finishes to provide a neutral backdrop. Storage is integrated into a long kitchen island, low cabinetry, and built-in wardrobes throughout the master suite. The design includes a home office, a flexible guest room with a Murphy bed, and an enclosed deck that functions as a seasonal outdoor space. The materials—metal, untreated ipe, and PVC—were selected for durability and low maintenance.
